And how is Age of Conan?

I already had a friend report me, and he hated controls, the graphics engine is not used well, he told me of tiny and ugly icons, no mob radar and stuff - i think he is a bit GW biased, but I got the strong impression that he really hates the game already.

Someone please give me a bit more detailed review. I do not only want to hear the moaning of one person.

Most GW carebears will hate it. This game actually requires user input.

C-Space Wammo's in particular. Shields and directional fighting... onoez !

Longasc, so far I'm liking it a lot. No mob radar is something I got used to in WoW anyway, Tempest of Set has a nice crowd control spell in Quicksand. I would say that in a few places where mob concentration is high it's harder than WoW to do it solo. I'd write more but I'm only up to lvl 12 so far, and still piddling around Tortage.

Not keen on the solo night time quests, but I don't think you *have* to do them.

To be fair, I think they've tried to stay away from Day-Glo icons and exclamation marks, all the quest givers icons are very solid affairs. It fits the style of the game, there's no fervent pop culture referencing at all.. it's all very... Conanesque. The map is a bit naff, I miss the fog as it lets me know where I've been / haven't been.

Im downloading a 400 MB patch. From what I hear if you enjoyed Oblivion you should enjoy this as well.

Hmm still undecided on what I'm going to roll. HoX is looking quite tempting. Has a better chance of surviving being ganked.

HoX would be good on a PVP server. They seemed pretty powerful in the PVP beta videos that I watched.

The ToS is fairly weak at earlier levels compared to other classes, but once you get to around level 20-25 and put the ability points in the right places, they become uber AoE pwnage freaks.

I was also interested in the Demonologist, I might make one for my second character. I want ToS, Demo and HoX in all, Im not too interested in the other classes.

In my opinion, the graphics engine is used brilliantly, the controls are great except for the shields, the icons arent as colourful and shiny shiny as they are in GW, they are more mature, I never really need a mob radar, the only thing I need to use the mini map for is following quest pointers.

Depends on if you want to carry on playing a dead game with shiny buttons and a radar (GW), or a new mature game with better graphics and new gameplay (AoC).

If you are happy with the game you play now, then you dont need to play AoC just yet. Try to get a friend key or wait for trial keys to be released so you can try it first if you still have doubts. Right now, the people playing AoC are those that are fed up of GW and / or WoW and have been looking to quit for a long time.

The AoC launch was fantastic. There were plenty of doomsayers that played the open beta complaining about how bad it was and that AoC would be too bugged on launch, but the game is running far better then I could have imagined. It is smooth as butter, no crashes, and there are a few tiny problems, but they are getting fixed, for example, since todays maintanance I have stopped having 9000 ms lag spikes.

One thing that I congratulate the developers or AoC for is that they have created a game which succeeds both GW and WoW. The gameplay combines the finest elements of both these games, and players of either one will be able to enjoy AoC.

I stopped at level 14 tonight (1-5 yesterday, 5-14 today), and will try and get to level 20 tomorrow

I was going to roll a necro, but various videos show them to be pretty useless from what I can see. I then looked at Demo, and then they have many of the issues faced by the necro.

HoX on the other hand has the ability to be either melee, mage, or both.

Might have to roll all 3, and test them all for a few days. Only issue with that is. is getting left behind by guild mates.

My guild wants to have a city and keep up and running in the shortest time possible, now they're not going to keep someone who isn't pulling their weight in this...me.

For the trial will I have to download the client, make an account etc etc, all that stuff? And what are the limits? Anyone know that information, if so link me to a FAQ sheet.

Will work like the GW buddy keys. D/L the client, patch the client and then play with the alloted time given

13gb client, and another 1gb+ in patches. You need ~30gb hard drive space for the full install. I hope you have room, and a stable connection.

Necros don't start to get strong till 70+ because most of the powerful spells like Corpse Explosion(whatever its called) are through deep feats. Low hp, low armor and useless pets(at low levels) make them a free kill for rogue classes.

If you're rolling a caster on a PvP server, you really have to group up with others.

Looks like I'm going HoX then.

I don't want to be ganked all the time, and I'm deff not rolling on a PvE server.

Anyways, my CE box is being processed now, should arrive in the next few days. My download shut itself off during the night so it barely progressed 1% over 5 hours.

By the time I finish d/l I will be a good 35gb over my monthly allowance found out I get throttled after 350mb lol wtb new ISP

Try to download via bittorrent, unless you're already doing it this way?

Yeah, avoid download between 4pm and 9pm and you'll be able to use your full bandwidth (virgin has no monthly allowance that I know of ... ?).

P.S.: the French hate you too :P

Whilst you may believe your friend more than others - it's still just one opinion. The majority on forums *sometimes* give a good view of the game. A review written by a popular person/company/website may be accurate. But they're all still opinions.

The best way for you to decide whether or not to play the game, is to read up on it's features here: http://community.ageofconan.com/

Personally though - PLAY IT!

I don't touch torrent sites.

Actually I read somewhere that Virgin limit you even further once you hit 5gb/month. Might have been BS though.

Even at this time of day my D/L sucks. I'd upgrade, but they're slowly upgrading everyone on the 4mb line to 10mb for free. They do a 20mb line here, but it rarely achieves that speed.

Lol, awesome.

Ugh, knackered this morning. We got beers in and played till 3am..
I hope they change the maintenance downtime after release, doing it in the evening / peak time for the UK is a seriously dumbass idea.

Our early hours is American peak time though. Best time to do it would be mid morning GMT, say 8-10am. They only people that suffer then is the jobless bums.

Edit - forget that. I forgot this isn't GW, and that US severs are seperate.
